The Story of Flex

It's not an exaggeration to say the whole nation is watching Flex. The development of flexible bus service on Cape Cod is considered a model of what can happen when government officials at all levels work cooperatively with business and community leaders to realize a long-held dream of improved mobility for everyone. Flex patronage of 57,213 passengers during the first year of service was 35 percent more than projected.

Flex partners include The National Park Service, the Cape Cod National Seashore, Congressman William Delahunt, the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation, the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, Cape Cod Commission, The Cape Cod Transit Task Force, state and county elected officials, and town leaders.

Also, the people of Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and town chambers, the Flex Working Group, the Lower/Outer Cape Community Coalition, dozens of other dedicated Lower/Outer Cape community leaders, and young people of Nauset Regional High School.
